How to book a Sun Ice Tours package:
Booking a holiday with Sun Ice Tours is easy.  Just pick up the phone and dial our toll-free reservation number 1-888-726-2072 or Winnipeg Direct at (204) 896-3879  or Fax: (204) 272-8760.  Our friendly and helpful sales staff will be able to answer any questions you may have.  Or if you prefer, you can let your local travel agent do the work. Just let your agent know which tour you’re interested in and which dates work for you.  It’s as easy as that!  Now you have the option of making an online booking with Visa, Master Card, or PayPal as well!  Simply choose the tour you’re interested in from our Tour Listings, and download the reservation form.  Send us by mail your payment plus your completed reservation form or e-mail the form with required information and one of our representatives will reserve the space for you.  You will then be contacted for further details to discuss your payment options.

Can I book a tour through my travel agent?
Simply contact your local travel agent.  Your travel agent will then contact us on your behalf.

Does the price change if I book with a travel agent?
No. We pay a travel agent a commission for handling your booking, but this does not affect the price of your tour.

When can I expect to receive my travel documents?
Travel documents are issued 14 days prior to your departure date.  If you haven’t received your documents by 10 days prior to departure, you should let us know.

Are children allowed on the tour?
Yes!  Unless otherwise specified children are allowed on the coach, and in our experience they are a welcome addition to the group.  Children must be must be mature enough to sit for long periods of time.  For this reason, we do not recommend that children under 5 years of age travel by motor coach.  As required by law an adult must accompany any youth under the age of 18 to supervise their activities.  We provide a family friendly atmosphere on our coaches.

Are prices listed in Canadian funds?
Prices are always listed in Canadian funds, even for departures to the United States.

Deposits and Payments:
For coach tours a deposit is required of $200 per person (unless otherwise stated), payable by credit card, cheque or cash at the time of booking.  Your booking will be held for 7 days with no deposit but is subject to cancellation if no deposit is received.   For cancellation policy please refer to our terms and conditions for further details.
For Self Drive packages, full payment is required and is 100% non-refundable.
For tours involving flights, a deposit of up to $500 per person is required and 100% non-refundable.  Final Payments are due 45 days prior to departure.

Does the price change depending on the number of people occupying it?
Unfortunately, yes!   Tour prices are based on the cost of the hotel rooms and the number of people in that room plus any meals, attractions and transportation.  The bulk of the tour price is made up of the hotel room cost.   The hotel room costs the same, whether there are two people (Double), 3 people(Triple), 4 people (Quad) or just one (Single) occupying the room.

Why is a single traveler so much more?
The difference between a (1) single traveler and (4) people in a room reflects a cost of ¼ of the hotel price.   Therefore a single traveler pays the whole cost of the room vs. it being divided by 4 and is reflected in the tour cost.

Is it safe to use my credit card when making a payment?
We do not collect credit card information over the phone nor do we store it for future reference!  Sun Ice Tours uses PayPal as a third party source for payment.   You do not need an account with PayPal to pay with your credit card.  However you will need a current e-mail address for verification.   Once we have your e-mail address we will send you an invoice with a secure link over the internet to input your credit card number.    Only you will be able to input the correct number and security code when making a payment by credit card and is transmitted via your computer to PayPal through a secure connection.  Funds will be held for 7 days to make sure your credit card clears and then be direct deposited into our account.   Once we have your funds in place we will send out your travel documents.  You credit card information will never be stored in our database and we do not have access to it through PayPal.    We do not accept credit card payments 14 days prior to departure.

Do I have to pay gratuities (tip)?
No, however tips to waiters, taxi drivers, step-on guides, tour directors and drivers are a tangible way for you to show your appreciation.  This practice, though customary, is voluntary, and is not included in the tour price. We suggest the following:
Waiters – Between 15-20% of your bill, but never less than $1
Taxi Drivers – 10%
Tour Directors and Drivers – Between $1 and $2 per person per day of the tour for each
        driver and tour director.
PLEASE BE ADVISED in some restaurants they will automatically add as much as 18% gratuity to your bill if you have a table of 8 or more people sitting together.   When going out to eat ask your waiter what their policy is before ordering a meal!

Please note: Gratuity is voluntary and our tour directors will not collect a tip for themselves of the driver.

How much luggage am I allowed?
As in most cases one carry on and one large suit case under the bus is acceptable.   When travelling on our shopping tours we suggest you bring a smaller suitcase inside a larger suitcase if you are planning on doing some major shopping.   Garbage bags that you can mark with a permanent marker so you can put your smaller bags in are recommended.   If you are on a shopping tour please be mindful of the other passengers with their bags.

What duty free goods am I eligible to bring into Canada when I return?
When you return to Canada, you may qualify for a personal exemption allowing you to bring goods of a certain value into the country without paying the regular duties. Personal exemptions are determined as follows:  After an absence of 24 hours, you may claim up to $50 CDN worth of goods, although you cannot include tobacco or alcohol in your exemption. If the goods you bring in are worth more than CAN$50 in total, you cannot claim this exemption. Instead, you have to pay full duties on all goods you bring in.

After an absence of 48 hours or more, you may claim up to $400 CDN worth of goods. While you may include some tobacco and alcohol in your exemption (see below), only a partial exemption will be applied to tobacco products.

After an absence of seven days or more, you may claim $750 CDN worth of goods. While you may include some tobacco and alcohol in your exemption (see below), only a partial exemption will be applied to tobacco products.

Tobacco Products:
If you are 18 years of age or over, you are allowed to bring in all of the following amounts of tobacco into Canada free of duty and taxes within your personal exemption:
200 cigarettes;
50 cigars or cigarillos;
200 grams (7 ounces) of manufactured tobacco; and
200 tobacco sticks.

Alcoholic Beverages: If you meet the minimum age requirements of the province or territory where you enter Canada, you can include limited quantities of alcoholic beverages in your personal exemption. These items must accompany you upon your arrival.

You are allowed to import only one of the following amounts of alcohol free of duty and taxes:
1.5 litres (53 imperial ounces) of wine;
1.14 litres (40 ounces) of alcohol;
a total of 1.14 litres (40 ounces) of wine and liquor; or
24 x 355 millilitre (12 ounce) cans or bottles (maximum of 8.5 litres) of beer or ale.

You may bring in more than the free allowance listed above, but these items will be subject to both customs and provincial assessments, including applicable duties, taxes and provincial fees.

How often does the coach stop?
We arrange rest-stops every 2-3 hours. We recommend you get off the coach to stretch your legs, have a meal or beverage, or just get some fresh air.

How are we seated on the bus?
All tours have assigned seating and are assigned on a first come first serve basis.  The sooner you book the better seat selection you have if that is a priority.   If you are booking a tour with a companion or friends,  seats will be assigned together so that you are able to socialize within your circle.   We will do our best to assign seats as close as possible in order to accommodate you.

On tours longer than 4 days we will rotate seats so that you have an opportunity to meet the other passengers.

Is eating/drinking/smoking allowed on the coach?
Smoking, food and alcoholic beverages are not allowed aboard our coaches.  For your comfort, we arrange frequent rest-stops.
For diabetic passengers, we do make exceptions.  This should be discussed with our office when booking a tour.
Passengers with allergic reactions to food, scents, etc.. etc..  must notify our office when booking so we can inform the rest of the passengers before travelling.     Eg. People who are allergic to peanuts!

Can I extend my stay?
If you are on a self drive package and wish to stay longer than the advertised package, please let us know and we will make arrangements with the hotel to extend your holiday.

If you have any further questions not answered here please call our office and
one of our friendly staff will be happy to assist you.
